Gratitude Galore: Winter and Spring at BJM
January – A Year of Open Doors Begins
Each January, our team dedicates time to seek God’s vision for the year, and in 2024, “Open Doors” became our guiding theme. This phrase stirred our hearts with anticipation, and as the months unfolded, we witnessed it realized in ways beyond our expectations. From new partnerships to unexpected opportunities, we have seen God’s hand lead us through open doors, creating impactful, life-giving connections that have strengthened our mission and expanded our reach.
March & April – Learning from Creatives and Building “Holy Curiosity”
The Azul cohort’s spring semester was filled with learning as guest presenters shared their journeys of following God through creative and meaningful careers. Our students were inspired by professionals in fields like fashion, executive coaching, mural arts, and more, gleaning wisdom and practical advice for their own creative paths.
Simultaneously, our Family Ministries embraced “Holy Curiosity,” exploring what it means to be followers of Jesus. We are deeply grateful for the spaces, resources, and opportunities that made this a season of growth for all involved.
February – Golden Encounters and Joyful Surrender
In February, a group of young girls from our community had the incredible opportunity to attend Golden, an empowering event hosted at Reality SF, one of Because Justice Matters’ partner churches. Led by BJM Founder Ruthie Kim and an amazing team of women, the event was a transformative experience that left a lasting impact on all who attended.
From the moment we arrived, the girls were swept up in an atmosphere of women-led worship, where the energy and passion were contagious. They participated in breakout workshops focused on creativity, expression, and spiritual growth. Throughout the day, the teachings challenged the girls to step into their full potential, urging them not to shrink back, but to be bold in their faith and their calling.
As the event drew to a close, the altar was filled with the girls seeking prayer from the leaders. It was a powerful moment of connection and reflection. One girl shared that she couldn’t wait to come back next year, while another proudly showed off her notebook, filled with pages of notes that she said would take her months to process. Many of our girls left the event with renewed energy and excitement to live boldly and unapologetically.
Golden was a perfect way to kick off the year—reminding our girls that they are seen, valued, and called to stand strong. It was an unforgettable experience, and we can’t wait to see the ripple effects of this day in the months to come.
May – BJM First Annual Creative Arts Production
With an exclamation mark, we wrapped up our Spring with BJM’s First Annual Creative Arts Production! This production, Bloom, beautifully showcased the transformative journeys of our Azul Cohort members and dance students. More than just a performance, Bloom celebrated the courage, growth, and resilience of young artists who stepped onto the stage to share their hearts. Through dance, spoken word, and heartfelt montages, each performer’s authenticity connected deeply with the audience, drawing applause that recognized both their talent and vulnerability.
As the curtain fell on Bloom, the sense of accomplishment was evident in the joy of each performer. In both the performance and quiet moments backstage, the essence of Because Justice Matters shone brightly—empowering young people to find their voices and inspiring others.
Bloom marks the beginning of an impactful tradition, and we look forward to all that God will continue to unfold through these creative journeys.
