Youth Summer Camp Blog 2024

Another beautiful summer arrived and another opportunity for summer camp came with it. Laughter echoed through the trees, friendships bloomed under starry skies, and every challenge turned into a victory dance. That’s exactly what our incredible group of young people experienced at this year’s summer camp! From heart-pounding adventures ziplining to life-changing moments in prayer, this camp was more than just fun—it was a journey of growth, faith, and unforgettable memories.

This year, our students came with an expectant desire to encounter God and this gave us an opportunity to minister as soon as we dropped our bags at the cabins.

From the moment we got out of the van at Alliance Redwood camp, deep conversations were what these young people needed. Away from their daily, often challenging, circumstances, they showed up to the beautiful redwoods, and got to ask God their hard questions. One of the many wonderful things about God is that He’s not scared of our doubts and questions, He always meets us with kindness and love. He did just that for these students.

As they poured their hearts out to God and each other, they encountered the love and mercy of God through community. All we did was set the stage, God did the healing.

It’s easier to realize and unlock your full potential after you allow God to heal your pain and wounds. After surrendering their hearts to Jesus, you could tell the difference in their faces: they were lighter, happier, and filled with hope. All they needed was the space to reflect, seek God, and experience the fruit of transformation in their lives.

One of the kids shared how nervous she was to come and how God met her:

“I was (nervous) because I wasn’t close to God, but after this trip, I felt a connection with Him… I’m glad I had the chance to come and be close to God.”

Another kid shared very openly about their struggles before camp:

“Lately I’ve been struggling with my inner thoughts and life… but I was able to connect with God again, I was able to feel Him again…I finally felt my light shine again.”

Summer camp is a mountain top moment. Years later, these kids will look back at those days in the redwoods and remember that God is real, God is good, and God will be with them wherever they go.

As we packed away the sleeping bags and said goodbye to another incredible summer camp, we were reminded of the lasting impact these moments have on our lives. The memories made, the friendships formed, and most importantly, the deep spiritual growth these young people experienced will stay with them long after they leave the redwoods. This camp wasn’t just a break from their everyday lives—it was a sacred time of transformation, a reminder that God meets us right where we are, with all our questions, doubts, and hopes. As these students move forward, they carry with them the hope, healing, and love they found in the quiet of the trees. The journey doesn’t end here; it’s only just beginning, and we’re excited to see how God continues to work in their lives.
