Women Are Encouraging
Here at BJM, we’re all about empowering women to step into their God-given purpose, and we love to acknowledge the strengths women in our lives exhibit. One of those women is Cori Shearer, a multi-talented woman who works in the tech industry, models, and somehow finds time to volunteer in both our EdenMade and dance departments.
“Encouragement is infectious,” says Cori. “I love the resilient, life-giving nature of women around me, and want to celebrate that.”
One of the women Cori celebrates is Francis, who inspired Cori to pursue her dream of modeling and enabled her to fully activate the artistic aspect of her identity. Through her work as a social media manager, Francis encourages and inspires plus-size women to feel at home in the fashion industry. Francis invited Cori to model for Part & Parcel, a plus-size women’s clothing brand and modeling agency that empowers women through their community-oriented company. Cori was deeply impacted by the day they spent together for that photoshoot. Being with Francis reminded Cori of a Maya Angelou quote:
“At the end of the day people won't remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.”
Cori clearly remembers how Francis made her feel. “Francis is supportive, inclusive, loving, encouraging, humble and resilient,” says Cori. “It’s all about the authenticity she walks in. She doesn’t consider her dreams silly, but a part of her purpose. She then calls others into their purpose, reminding them that we are all greater than our circumstances or fears.”
In the same spirit that Francis affirmed and supported Cori, Cori affirms girls in our dance classes and women in EdenMade. Having grown up learning to overcome and not be defined by difficult life circumstances, Cori is an amazing role model who embodies hope and empowerment.
“It’s life-giving to live my purpose alongside people in my community who are radical about loving Jesus and showing His love to others,” says Cori.
