Future Leaders
We believe girls are future leaders in their schools, communities, and San Francisco. To see families and communities transformed, we must invest in, equip, and mobilize the next generation. There are over 3,000 children growing up in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood, and we are creating space for those girls to encounter the love of Christ, discover their voices, and be empowered to walk boldly in who they are created to be.
At Because Justice Matters, we use creative mediums to engage young women in discipleship, mentorship, and leadership development so they can give back to their community in meaningful ways. Weekly small groups for girls from 5–12th grade provide space for mentorship, friendship, and fun, as well as the opportunity to grow in relationship with God and discover the ways we can give back to our community together.
Creative Arts
Through the disciplines of dance, theater arts, and music, girls learn healthy body-awareness, self-esteem, and leadership skills that equip them to triumph over the challenges of growing up in the inner city. Through times of prayer and devotion, rhythms of grace and reflection lead to encounters with God where identity and value are realized.
We operate two semesters a year, as well as supplemental summer workshops, teaching a wide variety of dance genres, theater, music, and songwriting, culminating in a season-end performance. Our girls generally range between the ages of 5–16, and many have studied creative arts disciplines with us for upwards of five years. These opportunities provide girls space to build community, develop greater self-esteem, and cultivate a love for the arts.
