Homeschooling Mamas, You're Not Alone

To those of you who are teaching your kids at home during this COVID-19 pandemic, we see you. You’re not alone. Meet Rachael Wade, a BJM supporter who is homeschooling five-year-old Maya and two-year-old Caleb.

The biggest challenge I've faced personally during this new season has been balancing time,” says Rachael. “Letting my kids be independent, teaching them patience, finding time to do my personal work, reminding myself that I can't do it all and be everyone's everything all the time—it is tough! But I enjoy getting a front row seat to their learning. I'm grateful that my primary calling is ‘mama’ in this season of life and I have the capacity to teach them. I asked my daughter if she was enjoying school at home, and she said the best part was being with me, so I guess that means I'm doing ok—HA!”

Rachael says it’s helpful to find a rhythm that works for her family, but she emphasizes, “Every family has different personalities and ages.” She has found a good rhythm by keeping a general structure for the week that looks similar to what is familiar for the kids and using the weekend to rest as a family—“sleeping in a little, movie time, or pancake mornings!”

Mamas, you're doing a great job,” says Rachael. “You were called to be the mama for your kid(s), which means you have everything you need to love them, teach them, and nurture them. What you don't, God will supply.
