This is the Day (Juneteenth)
THIS IS THE DAY BY KAYLA WREN
For this is a day that many have never held too close
Fearing the ways in which to embrace this sorrow turned to joy
How to wonder for so long without news such as this
How to hold your head so lowly without being aware of the beast that once was on your back is now the voice that declares
You are free
For free at last is the understatement of the century
Oh How glorious day was a day that was but a dream
For there is much that the mind can envision to escape realities of horror
But Now in this moment
A gift from God has been given back from the hands of those that did not know how to cherish
For as reflections of the far reality hit me with a chill this is the day that I remember
For though I could not ease the angst of my ancestors their trouble had no power to hold them for eternity
This is that bared reminder, the trumpet sound of surrender
So as I gather with my brothers and sisters near and far I can hold their hands and rejoice
For this day I shall not mourn or weep ,but celebrate and sing, harmonized with the voices of all that have come before me
For this is the day of joy restored
A day celebrated
A day blessed
A day of rest
For this is the day….and I will rejoice and hold gladness here.
