A Grateful Look Back Moment #3: A Summer To Remember, with our Community
This summer was packed with activities and transformation!
Summer is truly the best time of year, there is never a dull moment across each of our ministries.
We launched weekly Bible studies where parents alongside their middle and high school students studied the Sermon on the Mount together.
Every Wednesday, we would meet in two homes in one of the apartment buildings in the neighborhood while students gathered to study Scripture together and parents met down the hall at another apartment to study together. We would then come together and play games.
God faithfully provided housing this summer making this possible, we’re so grateful for His provision and all of the growth that happened this summer within our youth groups and families.
gathering around the pizza oven and fire pit…
During the summer, we hosted our first Community Pizza Night!
Our friends, families, and neighbors gathered around the pizza oven competing to create the most delicious pizza. Creativity flowed through topping combinations while heartfelt conversations took place around the firepit.
It was a noteworthy milestone, as it represented the work that our team has done in the last year to develop a strategic approach for a new social enterprise internship program (read more on our blog!). There is so much more to come, be on the lookout for what we are piloting this season for the youth in our community.
These weekly community pizza nights continued into Fall. We experienced sweet connections amongst our community, families, and youth while simultaneously developing pizza making skills and our business model.
We are grateful for these nights - for connection, creativity, laughter, for supporting each other as we dream for brighter futures.
UNITY AND STRENGTH THROUGH OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
This summer, we were elated to be back in the Tenderloin!
We had the honor of facilitating creative arts classes with our community partners. Our staff ran several dance classes each week, offering a variety of creative art electives: music, dance, and acting. We’re grateful for the Kroc Center San Francisco, San Francisco Recreation & Parks, and Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, as we worked together to serve dozens of youth in our neighborhood this summer.
We partnered with Ripple Effect 22, Glad Tidings Church San Francisco, and Radiance Christian Church for an end-of-summer youth camp hosting over 50 students!! We were so blessed with our ongoing partnerships and the privilege of doing ministry together. Thank you for all that you do to love and serve youth and families in the community.
We are so grateful for our ongoing partnerships with each organization and ministry. Thank you for all you do to love and serve youth and families in the community!
We could not have done any of this without our summer trainees who are a part of our Leadership Development intensive. They helped serve and lead most of our summer programs. It is such a joy to pour into them. If you are a college aged woman looking for a way to serve and lead next summer, email us at info@becausejusticematters.org!
